PS 87 Enrichment Programs
As part of an overall enrichment program at PS 87, the PA funds several programs for our students. See below for brief descriptions of some of our recent enrichment offerings.
National Dance Institute (NDI): NDI works with our Kindergarteners and 1st graders. NDI is a not-for-profit arts education organization founded in 1976 by Jacques d’Amboise. Through in-school partnerships, workshops, and public performances, NDI uses dance as a catalyst to engage children and motivate them towards excellence.
Center for Architecture: This program introduces 2nd graders to architecture and design as vehicles for fostering learning and discovery across core subject areas, cultivating students’ observation skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity.
Symphony Space: With hands-on workshops and school assemblies led by professional artists, our 3rd graders explore the cultures they are studying in their classroom social studies curriculum in greater depth.
PS 87 Chess Program: The Chess Program is part of the 3rd grade weekly curriculum.
Ballroom Dancing: At PS 87, the 4th graders take Ballroom Dancing in the spring. PS 87 has a partnership with Dancing Classrooms to provide this unique experience.
Jazz for Young People: Our 5th graders participate in this outstanding Jazz program through Lincoln Center that teaches them about the history and experience of Jazz.
