Our Mission & Vision

PS 87 is a diverse and welcoming public elementary school on Manhattan’s Upper West Side (District 3).

We are a close-knit community of students, educators, and families who believe learning should spark curiosity, creativity, and a sense of responsibility to one another.

Our mission is to support each child's growth—academically, socially, and emotionally—through a rich, inquiry-based curriculum that connects learning to the real world.

What We Offer

PS 87 is a vibrant community with a diverse student body, a strong Dual Language Program in Spanish and English, and a rich curriculum that includes music, art, science, and library. Our dedicated teachers and staff bring expertise and care to every classroom, while active parent involvement helps strengthen and enrich school life.

What We Value

Our approach to learning is child-centered, fostering independence, creativity, and critical thinking within inclusive classrooms that value equity and collaboration. Students engage in hands-on experiences connected to the real world, supported by an environment that encourages growth and risk-taking. Together, we uphold high expectations for students, staff, and families, ensuring a strong and supportive community of learners.

Beyond the Classroom

As a Community Studies / Classroom Without Walls Magnet School, PS 87 takes learning beyond the classroom through real-world experiences, local partnerships, and a focus on empathy and civic responsibility.  We celebrate our diversity, creativity, and commitment to raising lifelong learners who make a difference.
