Frequently Asked Questions
Arrival and Dismissal
Q: What are the school hours for each grade?
A: Pre-K and Kindergarten attend from 8:20 AM to 2:30 PM. Grades 1 through 5 attend from 8:20 AM to 2:35 PM.
Q: Where do arrival and dismissal take place?
A: Arrival and dismissal locations vary by grade and will be emailed to families before the school year starts.
Absence Procedures
Q: What should I do if my child will be absent or late to school?
A: Please email attendance@ps87.info to report any absence or lateness as soon as possible.
Q: What should I do if I need to pick up my child early?
A: Please send a note to your child’s teacher and email attendance@ps87.info in advance. Early pick-up must be by 2:00 PM. When you arrive, be sure to sign your child out at the Main Office.
504 Accomodations
Q: Who can help me understand and obtain a 504 plan or IEP, and how do I get started?
A: Hillary Kusinitz, our Special Education, 504, and Testing Coordinator, helps families understand services and guides them through the 504 or IEP process. Contact her for personalized support.
Electronics & Cell Phones
Q: Can students use electronic games, tablets, or cell phones during the school day?
A: All electronic games and tablets must be turned off and kept in students’ backpacks before entering the building. Cell phones are not allowed to be used during the school day under any circumstances.
Updating Contact Info
Q: How do I update my contact information with the school?
A: You must notify the school by submitting your updated information to the school office or by contacting the Parent Coordinator.
Lost and Found
Q: Where are lost items kept and how can I help my child keep track of their belongings?
A: Lost items such as clothing, lunchboxes, and book bags are placed in the Lost and Found located in the school lobby. To help prevent lost items, please be sure to label all your child’s belongings with their name.
Q: What happens to items that are not claimed?
A: Unclaimed items are donated to a local charity periodically. Upcoming donation dates:
