NATURE'S CLASSROOM (5TH GRADERS)
Nature’s Classroom is a residential environmental education program in Colebrook, Connecticut. P.S. 87’s students and teachers have participated in this program for over 15 years.  This year the trip will be May 29 - June 1.  Information will be going home via backpack and is also posted on the web (access by clicking here).  Attached is a form to submit so the school has an idea of your payment preferences.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) to improve educational outcomes for students by developing a set of common, voluntary, internationally-benchmarked academic standards in mathematics and English language arts.

Multi-Cultural Black History Month Celebration

You won't want to miss the festive and vibrant display of Art, Music, Dance and Poetry which in return demonstrates the true essence of PS 87!

This tour is for parents who live in District 3 but not zoned for PS 87, and are interested in applying to the school through the magnet grant.

HOLIDAY CAMP
Parents can register now for Holiday Camp, a week-long series of activities and field trips organized by the PS 87 Afterschool program. Holiday Camp runs February 20 - 24 and is open to PS 87 students in grades K through 5.  Participating students can be dropped off at 8:30 a.m. at the school and must be picked up by 5:30 p.m. Parents can enroll their children in a full week of activities or can choose one or more individual days. This winter’s field trips are:
  • February 20: New York Hall of Science
  • February 21: Bowling February 22: New York City Transit Museum
  • February 23: New York City Fire Museum
  • February 24: Museum of the Moving Image

Camp costs $80 per day, or $380 for all five days. To register, download a registration form and permission slip at www.87afterschool.org. Forms also are available in the PS 87 lobby or the Afterschool office.
