For: Parents who live in District 3 but are not zoned for PS 87.  This tour is for parents interested in applying through the magnet grant for general education and dual language classes.

NATURE'S CLASSROOM (5TH GRADERS)
Nature’s Classroom is a residential environmental education program in Colebrook, Connecticut. P.S. 87’s students and teachers have participated in this program for over 15 years.  This year the trip will be May 29 - June 1.  Information will be going home via backpack and is also posted on the web (access by clicking here).  Attached is a form to submit  so the school has an idea of your payment preferences.

Common Core Standards
The Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) to improve educational outcomes for students by developing a set of common, voluntary, internationally-benchmarked academic standards in mathematics and English language arts.

ELA/MATH PARENT WORKSHOP (GRADES 3, 4, 5)
Two sessions have been scheduled to discuss the English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics tests.  Jacqueline Morison, upper grade literacy coach, and teachers from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, will explain the test sections and what is expected of the children.  Topics include: Information regarding the number and type questions by grade and section, percentage of questions assessing each standard and format of the test.
