Volunteers bring PS 87 to life-and we'd love for you to be part of it. Whether you have an hour a week or just a few minutes now and then, your time and energy can make a real difference.
There are so many ways to get involved, both during the school day and beyond. Big or small, every contribution matters-and there's something for everyone!

Volunteer Opportunities
Core Volunteer
Would you love to pitch in at random but unsure how you want to help? We will let you know when we need extra hands!
Coffee Crew
Assist with set up or clean up for the PA's monthly morning meet-up, where coffee and light snacks are served.
Garden Committee
As the scaffolding comes down our lovely gardens will be accessible again! We would love a crew of volunteers to bring them back to life!
Lost & Found
Not all that is lost is easily found! We need helpers to manage the lost and found. We go through the lost and found a few times a year to return lost property and donate the remaining ítems.
Backpack News
Backpack News is our weekly school newsletter! The editors could use help with interviewing staff, writing articles and editing.
Community Service Squad
If you would like to find different volunteer activities for our community to join or would like to assist in publicizing events, organizing donations and delivering materials to the correct organization, then this is the committee for you!
Green Team
Help keep PS 87 “Green”. Assist in recycling efforts & keeping the reusable classroom “publishing party” kits stocked! Brainstorm other ways to make 87 “Green”.
One Family Under the Sun
One Family Under the Sun is our Community & Culture committee. We put on events to celebrate the different cultures represented in our community!
Bulletin Board Brigade
Keeping the Entryway in full school spirit is quite the task! Join the team of volunteers to deck the halls all year long!
Fundraising Committee
Help with the Auction, Harvest Fest or Spring Fair, three major fundraisers of the year. We are always open to new fundraising ideas as well!
Library Helpers
Primary responsibilities are shelving books & helping children choose books. No minimal or regular commitment is required & times are flexible. Passion for the Dewey Decimal System is a plus!
Teacher Appreciation
If you would like to spread some sunshine to our teachers this is the committee for you! Major duties include deliveries during Teacher Appreciation Week, helping organize the Holiday Party & providing snacks when teachers stay late for events like Curriculum Night.
Tech Team
We use the auditorium for many events throughout the school year. We would love a team of volunteers who understand how to operate all the technology inside the room! If you don’t know - don’t worry - we can train you!
